An extension and refurbishment to a countryside home in Englefield

An extension and refurbishment to a countryside home in Englefield

Thatched Cottage

The project connected a detached barn to two separate areas within the main house. This included the construction of a pitched roof link, the installation of a new kitchen, a conversion of the barn into a living area with attaching shower room and removing a bay window to bring the dining room into the newly created open plan area.

A stunning new kitchen

Designed to be the heart of the home with a large sociable central island, this high specification kitchen is practical and very attractive. Whilst maintaining the existing AGA, the entire kitchen was stripped out, extended and refurbished to brand new. The modern yet rustic design was perfectly in keeping with the property's rural exterior and modern open plan living space.

A spacious living area

Connecting the house to the detached barn opened up a huge living area, perfect for comfortable family living and entertaining. The floors were relaid with a natural limestone and electrical underfloor heating beneath. An additional ground floor shower room was created, fully tiled and connected into the external mains drainage.

Shiplake Homes were thorough, professional and courteous throughout. The job was well specified and planned, delivered to budget and timescale and built to a high standard. We have no hesitation in recommending them.

A sociable dining area

The new dining area was fully refurbished, floors replaced and a new dresser unit installed in keeping with the kitchen units. Opening onto the connecting link, the dining area flows well from the kitchen and provides a modern, large and comfortable dining space.
